Terms & Conditions - the basics

For the client

  • Professional conduct: Attend sessions on time, on time, and refrain from attending while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Abusive or threatening behaviour is not tolerated. If attending in person please be respectful this is the therapist's home.

  • Payment: Payment should eb made on or before the session. If payment is not made you may not be able to book another session until this is rectified. 

  • Cancellations: Provide sufficient notice for cancellations (e.g., 48 hours) 

  • Communication: Be honest and open during sessions. Inform the therapist of any planned absences or holidays in advance.

For the therapist

  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of all client information and discussions.

  • Exceptions to confidentiality: Inform clients about situations where confidentiality may be breached, such as a risk of harm to the client or others, or abuse.

  • Professional boundaries: Avoid dual relationships, such as social, business, or personal ones, to ensure the therapeutic relationship remains professional. This includes not connecting on social media or having business transactions with clients.

  • Best interests: Act in the client's best interests and treat them with respect and empathy.

  • Record keeping: Securely store client information for a set period and inform clients about how their data is held and protected.

  • Session conduct: The therapist will start sessions on time and may end a session if the client is late or if they believe the client is intoxicated. The therapist cannot extend a session beyond the agreed-upon time.

  • Professional knowledge: Ensure they have the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience for the client's needs.

Joint responsibility

  • Contract: A written contract is established at the start of therapy to define the terms and conditions of the relationship.

  • Honesty: Both parties are expected to be honest and open with each other.

  • Respect: Both the client and therapist are expected to treat each other with respect and maintain professional boundaries.
